Can anyone in Eastern Europe please tell us - is this true? There is very little in the mainstream press, BBC etc about it.

Is the Slovakia-Ukraine border closed?

  1. If it is true, they will be asking for all those pesky birds to avoid their air space too as they are the oves carrying this form of bird flu!!!

Sorry, I could not resist that one!!

I have a friend in Brno, I will send a PM and see if they know of anything... they are off line at the moment so may take some time to get an answer.

  2. My ex lives in the very furthest western town in Ukraine. About half an hour's drive from Humenne, Slovakia, where I know people also. Neither know anything about a closed border.

  3. all border crossings are closed - except ONE where Slovakian doctors examine people from the Ukraine for H1N1.
There are 871000 "swine flu" cases and 138 deaths reported in the Ukraine; all schools are closed, etc.

  6. Scariest thing is... about two months ago, I was planning a trip by train from Budapest, exactly through that route, Budapest to Kosice, then Chop, on to Uzhgorod. I'd have been over there now if I'd been able to to afford it, which as it turned out, I couldn't. I recall last time I went... by plane via Fiumicino, Rome. My airline, Alitalia, came close to going bust the week I was due to fly.

  7. I was in China for 3 weeks during the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) pandemic in 2003...
all went well because I knew what NOT to do (and a bit of luck, of course)
