Here's a selection of debates on 'Middle-East' issues hosted by the BBC and broadcast from Qatar; hadn't heard about these previously, not sure how old they are. There are many more, but I picked a selection centred around the topics of Israel / Palestine, Hamas and extremism.
This is public domain, please don't ask before you re-post on any group. I'd encourage it.
I don't have hours to watch all these videos.
AntwortenLöschenThe fact is that the West's preferred concept of a "two state" solution will never work in Palestine.
It is far and away time that they dropped that idea, and got busy with creating a multi-cultural single state in the region, and started preaching peace and harmony, not rule by division as we have now.
It strikes me as funny that the USA and the UK preach democracy everywhere, then go out of their way to ignore it in the Middle East. I also seem to remember that 9/11 was actually a terrorist attack to get this concept changed.
Hamas got elected in Gaza because Fatah are corrupt. Fatah were pocketing money while Hamas built schools and hospitals.
Gaza then gets isolated and starved to death by Israel. So in desperation Gazans lob a grenade over the wall into Israel, who respond by sending 4 F16s round who destroy a block of flats. "Appropriate response" are not words that Israel understands.
I really think that it is time that the Middle East learns from the story of Moses once again, and leads all the peoples of the region on a new uncharted course towards a new single, joint, Jewish / Palestinian state with true democracy - not because any particular powerful people want it, but because it is the right thing for them all to do.
Sure, I understood that when I posted them. These are for reference, and I imagine people dipping in and watching what they can, when they can. You may not have time right now, others will. Thanks for your input.

AntwortenLöschenAnd I do wish Multiply would stop copying the whole bloody post (!!) when I try to respond to just part of someone's reply... particularly annoying here since the respondent's complaint was about the length of the post! So irritating... deleted reply was mine, as described.
LOL, but what about the points I have raised?
AntwortenLöschenPatience is a virtue.
AntwortenLöschenI agree with you, the Hamas vote was one of desperation, because Fatah were a corrupt alternative.
AntwortenLöschenDon't know how workable the joint Jewish/Palestinian single state would be... I suppose it works here. Or does it? A supporter of the IRA might say differently. I couldn't see any militia going along with that, and there would forever be trouble... but I think you're barking up the right tree with that. Hard to visualise it though... Israelis and Arabs alongside each other in Parliament, with the animosity running as deep as it does. Someone has to go first, lay down their arms and embrace that. If that were Israel, who ultimately call the shots because their military power is far superior, I would doubt their sincerity. A balance of power is desirable in the region, so it's good there is an Islamic bomb. Nuclear weapons - the great fear, I think, should peace not be found - are easier to accept so long as nobody uses one.
Yes, I think your theory is one way to do it. If I knew how, I'd probably be over there making it happen. I think the Zionist agenda to expand Israel is too strong, that political camp too powerful. They won't allow two states, and they won't allow Palestine to live alongside them as one state. As long as the money-power (Rothschild/AIPAC/USA etc) behind it remains so strong, I can only see a solution in that region, after an almighty conflict, making a lot of it uninhabitable and possibly dragging all of us down with it. Melodrama aside, that's how I see it. I prefer your way. Perhaps Hamas should demilitarise and put the onus on Israel to respond peacefully... but will they?
I hear what you say.... but I think you'd have more success (and probably a cheaper flight!) if you got on a flight to Washington DC. That is where the Israeli power eminates from, even though, since Obama got in, he has been pretty much ignored by the Kinesit.
AntwortenLöschenI also see my idea as the only other alternative. Hamas's main point of grief with the US and Israel is that they are opposed to the fact that the United States imposed Israel on the region, which is why there is such hatred towards the US in the region. The challenge is that we are now where we are, and we can not unpick history, so it is a matter of how we move forwards. It seems to me that if it were one state, with one Parliament, perhaps a good brand of proportional representation even, then the Jews can have their homeland, and so can the Palestinians.
As a tourist destination, this one country can thrive like you wouldn't believe, as it is the centre for all the Abrhamic religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islamism. People want to go there. Imagine the possibilities for all the new hotels and restaurants of all different flavours!
If the world went down this route, maybe it would be adviseable to remove all the nuclear arms from the country, just to be on the safe side!
