Or the Thunder Lingerie and peep show next door, where the marquee sports an American flag above a window display of sex toys and something called a "power pump."
Many come to the scene of the worst terrorist attack on American soil to pay tribute to pain and unspeakable tragedy. They're welcomed by solemn memorials and a visitors center amid the noise of reconstruction.
If they're so inclined, they can also buy porn, play the ponies and take care of all manner of personal business within steps of the former World Trade Center.
In a walk of the streets within three blocks of Ground Zero, the Daily News counted 17 pizza shops, 18 bank branches, 11 bars, 10 shoe stores and 17 separate salons where a girl can get her lady parts groomed.
"There is something for everyone downtown, from mom-and-pop establishments to luxury retailers such as Tiffany's and Hermes," said Jeff Simmons of the Alliance for Downtown New York.

So there's going to be a shopping mall literally in the ground of Ground Zero. "Below-grade" means "in the ground." The Ground. In other words, Sarah Palin and her entire gaggle of various babies and ghost writers can visit Ground Zero and honor the heroes and victims of 9/11 while trying on tankinis at Juicy Couture (or whatever clothing stores end up there) constructed within the actual ground of Ground Zero.
This bears repeating: unlike Park 51, which is blocks away, there's going to be a 55,000 square foot mall under the same ground where people fell to their deaths on that terrible day. Ground that's mixed with the remains of the dead. A mall.
Naturally they won't bother because the mosque issue isn't really as much about the ground as it is about stoking and capitalizing on religious intolerance. When you eliminate the inconsistencies, contradictions and oversights, all that's left is political fear-mongering, demagoguery and a disturbing disregard for the free exercise clause. If it was truly about hallowed ground, we'd hear about all of those other American sites

No, win. I'd call it a community centre. It's like the Methodist's down the road. There's the church, and then there's this seperate building where they hold functions. Just a suitable 'hall' kinda venue, in this case. What is important is to not mix up the actual church itself and the hall building.

I think it's great that New York have chosen to have this place opened there, but am I remotely 'for' the spreading of ANY religious creed? No sir. Will indoctrination of children take place in that community centre, as it does in the Methodist's hall down the road? Probably. That's how Abrahamic religions operate, get 'em young as possible. Especially the Catholics.
Did you read Jan's article about the FBI Imam? Most enlightening. I'm looking forward to hearing the replies there from those who have been so quick to criticise this 'mosque'.

The center thus has made two of the thirteen floors into what can be considered a masjid.
It's really all the same, but that hardly fits the narrative of the right wing nut brigade.... Much easier to scare their insipid minions if they call it a mosque... conjures up much better images in the minds that are small and closed.
