Why the world should know who Monsanto is
and what it does. The short answer is: everyone eats.
I'm bringing this issue here because, although Monsanto is a US company, they are attempting to "take root" in every country in the world that grows anything edible or useful. They get patents on seeds that grow crops, sometimes not even based on their own work, but always with the goal of controlling an ever-increasing percentage of the world's food supply.
In addition to Monsanto, there is also DuPont. and a French company called Aventis, but Monsanto is the biggest and worst.
Everyone should look closely at the agricultural and food safety laws and policies where ever you live. Politicians get bribed or influenced with promises of increased production and may overlook the "catch" that comes from allowing any Monsanto or other genetically modified food to worm its way in.
The Future Of Food
I am unfortunately unable to watch the video, but I understand that once Monsanto gets a patent on a seed, no one can plant it but under their auspices or without payment to them. Many people who are backyard gardeners save seed one year to the next as do small farmers in developing countries. With Monsanto owning the patent on a seed I do not know if this would be possible. It would be possible for Monsanto to take from us the means of growing our own food.
AntwortenLöschenAdditionally, some food may be made with the protein genes of another. I understand some beans and corn are modified with peanut genes which may make them inedible to people with peanut allergies.
A growing (small joke) concern.
Farmers who retain seed grain have been sued by Monsanto and made to pay enormous fines as an "incentive" not to save the grain. With the rise of Monsanto as a force, local county extension services who used to supply seed grain to farmers has waned and local agricultural research has languished. Instead agriculture is referred to as "Agribusiness" and it is a big business indeed. Supported by large incentives supposedly designed to help family farmers but is instead funneled to large agribusiness companies those same companies then turn around and screw the family farmers.
AntwortenLöschenThanks, Stevie, that's about what I expected. Local county (in the US) extention services have been so valuable to the family farm.
AntwortenLöschenQuite apart from the ethics of the business, the genetically modified crops don't even fulfil the promises made by Monsanto about their capabilities.

AntwortenLöschenNo, I don't know how to use tiny.url
AntwortenLöschenI do wish it wouldn't tell everyone what OS I use whenever I post one of those links...
Monsanto has been banned in Europe. I don't understand why we are having such a problem getting rid of this violation of human rights in America. Maybe this partially explains.
AntwortenLöschen"Current members of the board of directors of Monsanto are: Frank V. AtLee III, the former President of American Cyanamid and former chairman of Cynamid International, John W. Bachmann, Hugh Grant, the chairman of Monsanto, Arthur H. Harper, Gwendolyn S. King, president of McDonald’s USA, Sharon R. Long, C. Steven McMillan, the former chairman and CEO of Sara Lee Corporation, William U. Parfet, George H. Poste, Robert J. Stevens, the current chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation."
"Former Monsanto employees currently hold positions in US government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Supreme Court. These include Clarence Thomas, Michael R. Taylor, Ann Veneman, Linda Fisher, Michael Friedman, William D. Ruckelshaus, and Mickey Kantor. Linda Fisher has been back and forth between positions at Monsanto and the EPA."

This is exactly the reason why the conservatives say this is a government conspiracy. They also equate the conspiracy with the government run "Noah's Ark" seed banks of the world to mean that they are planning, or know, something terrible is going to happen to vegetation in the future. The truth of the matter is that is the government stores heirloom seed varieties, just in case something does.
If you copy the url from the search listing you get the google link, but if you actually go to the page and copy that link it won't have all that extraneous info in it. I've done that myself before. Good information there- thanks.
AntwortenLöschenExcellent article. I also noticed the paragraph about Fox News, which as a result of failing to report fully the danger of Monsanto's products, ended up winning a Supreme Court case which affirmed their Constitutional right to lie.
AntwortenLöschenFew years ago, around the time I first met you on here I think, when I was a lot more into the 'conspiracy theory' side of things, I came across talk of a great underground bunker in Norway, where it was alleged the 'NWO' would disappear to, or under the Alps, when the time comes to kill us all off. I think Z. Sitchin wrote about it; Above Top Secret, semi-serious sites like that. Some of it's a bit X Files, but there's meant to be massive seed storage there. If what I've read this weekend about the Terminator gene unfolds, this concept seems like a great idea, if you ask me.
AntwortenLöschenI think the nail has been hit firmly on the head. This whole topic is truly disturbing.
Hugh Grant... mad world!
I remember. I have given up a lot of that, mainly because I realize that there are perfectly reasonable explanations for underground bunkers and seed banks, continuity of government probably being top priority on that list. Global warming is probably a close second. Isn't it so ironic that Monsanto supposedly engineers seed to combat the effects of global warming and the government hides away heirloom seed to combat the effects of global warming. Meanwhile, the global elite supposedly have rooms reserved in those underground bunkers while they continue their path of destruction. It truly is a mad world.
AntwortenLöschenFox news is becoming something of a puzzle to me. For reasons I won't go into here. It's way off topic but perhaps leads right back into the topic if we all knew the truth. Isn't it interesting how they have their fingerprints everywhere? It seems though, the Supreme Court is becoming too powerful. The balance of power seems to have shifted dramatically into their court and we really need to worry about that. We continually watch what the executive and legislative branches are doing and we have the power to control that somewhat. We have the least amount of control when it comes to the judicial branch. As we can see, by the recent Citizens United decision, we have even less control of all three branches.
AntwortenLöschenI think the problem with most conspiracy theories is that they go beyond the identifiable wrongdoers, and in the attempt to tie them in to something bigger, they lose the credible motive.
AntwortenLöschenEvery corporation is a conspiracy to make a profit. Some of them probably do it honestly and compete fairly, and some obviously don't. Those who don't often include members of government in their conspiracies- regulators, judges, Congressmen, etc., and/or other corporations. But the motive is profit, which buys power, which enables greater profit, ad infinitum.
I don't think Monsanto wants to kill people. They just want to make a profit every time any one of us eats- the one thing we won't ever stop doing.
They are very likely to make a lot of people sick, and kill some of them, and those will be "acceptable collateral damage", just like the civilian deaths in war. Their terminator and zombie seeds are intended as power tools to enforce their control, even if their patents are revoked. Still, they are dangerous tools, and clear evidence that no corporation, nor anyone else, should be trusted with that much power.
