Deep Thoughts from Idaho, USA

  1. Sorry Randy, I don't believe that war, crime, hunger and poverty are related to oxygen. It's our defectiveness, which creates them. It's a coincidence that we happen to breathe.

  2. I think you are missing the point - as i see it anyway. We live in a world where there will always be war, poverty & crime.

    Always - we know this.

I think some people think that UTOPIA can be achieved somehow.

It can't - people need to chill out realize that, despite all these things listed, we are doing pretty damn good!

This is the message that I take from it.

Of course I am clinically insane so.........

  3. That reminds me of a comedy sketch I saw once with Rowan Atkinson playing an alien:

"Things are different on our world - there is no death, no gravity, and a different shaped gear stick on the Mini Metro..."

  5. This is where you are wrong, Randy, in my opinion. You can't know if it will always be the way it is now. When we live in a system of competition instead of co-operation, of extreme social imbalance, poor education, greed and aggression it leads inevitably to war. This is what we see now in the world. But assuming this is something like a natural law is wrong. It is our culture, that accepts poverty of the many for the benefit of the few. It is a decision to live in an aggressive way. Who decided that we live this way? Who has a profit? We still can escape the excesses of predatory capitalism in our private life, though, do without aggressive jobs, rather live with smaller income, trying alternate ways of life, living in peace with our neighbors, and so on. I'm sure such a society would fight less wars.

  6. While I would agree with your general criticism of the Capitalist system, Ulla, I've got to lean here toward agreeing with Randy. The opposite Communist system collapsed quickly enough, albeit aggravated. Point is, it still ended up with an elite lording it over the many. I will never forget when Gurcan put into layman's terms, probably on this group, what exactly the problem IS: simply, man just can't get along unless there's an ocean or a mountain in the way.

Tribalism, in other words. And Social Darwinism.

There's a cartoon in my work-canteen newspaper... will see if I can find it. Hagar the Horrible, a Viking warrior. His friend asks him why they have to fight wars. He replies 'wars are started because somebody wants what someone else has'. "And what happens when they have that something?" 'They find a good tax shelter...'.

I always liked comedienne Sarah Silverman's idea - sell the Vatican, end world hunger. But then, that would put a lot of Italians employed in tourism and so on, out of a job.

Maybe the 'NWO' are right? There are simply too many of us and we need a great big war or global epidemic to kill off a couple of billion? If you had the power to make sure you were not one of those killed off, wouldn't you?

  7. Looking at history we gain perspective on what the future holds for us. There will always be evil. I don't mean in the religious sense. People with bad intentions.

Because of this there will always be war, crime, poverty & misery.

The idea is to make this the exception and not the norm. I think there are those people who think we can eliminate misery.

We can't. That place does not exist. This is what the picture is saying in my view.

Let's work to correct the wrong but also take pride in the advancement we have made making this a better planet.

  8. It's possible that this mode of existence will only be in place while our bodies and minds are in this configuration, I.e. as human beings. Is this the end of our evolution? And if not then what are we evolving towards? Yes, if you look at known history, you will see wars and greed. But recorded history goes back approximately 10,000 years. In evolutionary terms, that's like judging how your day went based on the last 5 minutes.
