MELBOURNE, Australia - Taking sick days is set to get tougher -- there may be a cure for the common cold.
Australian drug maker Biota Wednesday reported the stunning success of its antiviral compound, named Vapendavir.
Tested in 300 asthmatic patients infected with the cold-causing human rhinovirus, the clinical trial showed that cold symptoms eased quickly and the duration of the infection was shortened considerably.

AntwortenLöschenWhen I have full-on feverish muscle-spasm can't-breathe Man-flu, I might go sick... otherwise I just do a couple of 24 hour lemsip capsules and go to work anyway. If I look that bad they want to send me home, fine by me. But it looks a lot better turning up and soldiering on, than always taking days off. Besides, saves those days for when you need a day off but aren't actually sick... :)
That said, my job is quite physical, warehouse-oriented and it soon shakes up the lungs, even if it burns. I wouldn't want to go work in an office, answering phones and greeting clients, in that state. No way.
