Media Matters: America

http://mediamatters.org/
Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.

Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation — news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda — every day, in real time.

... (RP) This reminds me of the old 'Fox Attacks'. So sad that it's necessary... but I guess this is a large part of what we're here for! A little partisan of me, but I'm very glad to know such a service exists. If the news and history are being tampered with, and we're being fed a load of propaganda, it's wonderful to know that anyone with internet access and a brain to think, has tools ready at their fingertips to instantly combat that misinformation. Thanks Jan ;)

  2. This is actually a pretty well-known group. especially by liberals, in the US. It is often cited to rebuke Rupert Murdock news outlets, for example.

  3. Also - if there is a right-leaning equivalent which combats Socialist propaganda and/or misinformation, please let me know and I'll post that too.

  4. Media matters is actually non-partisan and balanced. There just seems to be more propaganda coming these days from the right.

  5. Be careful trusting Media Matters. They are extraordinarily partisan and they’re far from being balanced.

They're funded at least in part (if not as a majority) by Soros as well.

  6. From a conservative website. One might expect attacks on those who are critical.

The absolute gall to monitor the ramblings the self-inflated Rush Limbaugh!

  7. Thanks. Glad you came back. Soros was behind Reporters sans Frontiers too, I believe.

  8. Media Matters is a left-leaning website. It is also rather reputable.

  9. Problem is, this organization is accused by the right of simply spreading leftist views.
Entirely untrue but the closed minds of the Right just won't see the truth.

  10. There is no such thing as a privileged position where anyone is can claim a role of "neutrality." I'm sorry, but that's a bunch of nonsense. Even picking WHICH facts to gather, which questions to address is a subjective issue.

Whether an organization is funded by a right wing/ fascist or a progressive organization SHOULDN'T matter if the reporting stands up to scrutiny. Case in point: you can comb through the Media Matters material and if you find INTENTIONALLY misleading reporting, then it's full of shot -- no matter who funds it.

The problem here is that if I take right wing think tanks -- Heritage immediately comes to mind, there's a plethora of documented instances where they have been found either spinning the data, or in some cases literally omitting data, in order to make a propagandist point.

Heritage gas done this repeatedly. The Tanton network, the eugenicist movement behind much of the anti-immigrant bile that informs the US immigration debate, spews forth "think tanks" and "research" organizations that publish "research" so utterly wrong, it begs the imagination.

The same can be said of climate change deniers, one of which published a "survey" claiming over "32,000" scientists had signed on AGAINST climate change. The problem? ANYONE COULD SIGN THE DAMN THING!

I swear the local dog catcher's name is on that list of "climate skeptics." LOL

Soros funds many programs world-wide, but he's not the big bad global ruler conspiracy theorists like to make him out to be. Much of his work centers around criminal justice reform. But if one were to add the amount of funds coming from conservative. fascists sources, they totally outnumber funds that go to progressive sources.

And the FACT is that most of the conservative think tanks post "research" that would not pass any peer-review process.

Now, anyone here want to tell me that the major capitalists of the world are actually at the core of a socialist revolt?

Cuz, I haven't had a GOOD laugh yet today...

  11. Only a “progressive” agenda driven person could ever “trust” the main stream media again – but that’s the point… isn’t it?

The blockbuster series of Daily Caller reports on the Journolist—culled from the archives of the secretive email list which paired liberal academics, bloggers, and think tank members with the mainstream media—has not included many surprises for those who realize that any claim of a semblance of fairness or unbiased observation on the part of the U.S. mainstream media is an absurd myth. The revelations, however, have further undermined any pretense of real journalistic standards, much less objectivity, on the part of the nation’s obsolescent mainstream news media.

So long, and good riddance, say we—in a world where only 29% of Americans trust the media, the concept was on its deathbed anyway.

Many of the Journolist conversations turned to the kind of foul-mouthed venom one typically expects from activist bloggers, not journalists for Bloomberg, Time, Newsweek, Politico, Foreign Policy, The New Yorker, National Public Radio, and other such high-minded institutions. Some of the vitriol is quite extreme—the NPR journalist caught on a thread talking about her hopes for Rush Limbaugh’s death has apologized—and already, examples are emerging where conversations with the radical online left fed into the musings of prominent “mainstream” journalists.

I'll go ahead and post the entire blog in this group.

  12. LOL

Out of curiosity I ran over to the “unbiased” Media Matters website and preformed a quick search for Olbermann (one of the absolutely most vile, hateful and misleading leftists in the main stream media).

Guess what? The Soros run, leftist, attack-dog Media Matters has not one negative thing to write about him

    SURPRISE!
