"A donkey with a load of holy books
is still a donkey."

what does that Sufi quote mean to you ?
To me this means a number of things. Firstly even if a man reads or believe a certain book - if he is unable to interpret the information & may not be capable of understanding it - not to mention practice.
It tells me to chose my teachers / spiritual leaders wisely.
It tells me some people will never grow and develop.
It tells me if an illiterate person with no other experience is given a Holy book it will be of no advantage to him without a good teacher .
Examples of Donkeys would be Westboro Church & Mullahs of Iran :) there are many, many more . keeping people uninformed and ignorant makes them easier to manipulate.
How does one avoid being a donkey following other donkeys ?
Love this...
AntwortenLöschenIt means to me what you said. I think one avoids being a donkey by following a Christian saying (there are similar sayings in other languages "By their works shall ye know them." I look at what a person does, not just what he/she is saying. If their works help make the world a kinder place, a wiser place, and a better place I am more likely to follow them. Although I have also learned it is better not to follow in general.
AntwortenLöschenyou are in my opinion , always a wise and fair person.
AntwortenLöschenI think when people start a generalisation " Christians beleive .... " or " Muslims beleive ... " then they must be a donkey .
There are umpteen different types of Christian and umpteen different type of Muslim. Who has the right to belittle the others ?
I think donkeys are hard working , sure footed , cute animals - but would I bet on them for the Grand National .... no sir
I meant other religions, not languages.
AntwortenLöschenThank you, Jan, for your words, I am honored.
AntwortenLöschenif you listen to a Donkey .... they often have not been out of their own backyard
never seen or experienced the subjects they wax so lyrical about - profuse to be an expert on .....
If all their expertise is gleaned from internet sites be wary of their words ....
This is wise and I have found it to be true. I am grateful I had the opportunity to travel in the former USSR and also Europe. Also my father felt it was very important to expose us to different cultures and also the news from an early age, and discuss issues. Young people today do not often get this. You seem to have traveled also and, I know, read widely.
AntwortenLöschenMuslims seem to be the new group it is "OK" to hate. I must say I am a learner in this regard, but I have gone to many of the sites you have posted and learned a good deal. The Western world has been "messing" with much of the Muslim world for over a hundred years and that is not counting the crusades "to get the Holy Lnd back". And yet the two religions have so much in common.
AntwortenLöschenif you ever wish to visit Turkey I will be happy to show you around , The peopel will amaze you .
Even Sidramone liked it ..lmao
Despite everything different each of us has been taught, and experienced .. beneath all that, we're all human.
AntwortenLöschenTHOUGHTFULLY DONE
