Israel and Palestine

Just some random images, inspired by and including a gallery I saw on Der Spiegel this morning (thanks Baglava). I've tried to show various sides here, give a relatively unbiased overview. Undoubtedly the world's most complex territorial dispute.

  1. One of the most interesting images I saw today was an interview with President Obama and he was being annoyed by a fly.

He considered the fly for a second the reached out and killed it with one blow.

I thought this was an incredibly powerful allegory!

  2. I saw this in a newspaper yesterday & I think it'll be impossible for President Obama to take the pressure from Israeli lobby.

  3. I suppose this is their way of pressurizing him further. Not that he isn't already sitting in their lap. It's just their way of saying 'do more'.

  4. Yeah. Makes you wonder why nobody gets convicted for these war crimes, doesn't it? Perhaps it's time the UNO gets dismantled, just like the League of Nations.

  5. More power to them.

  7. That's a whole thread by itself...

What's the difference between a 'terrorist' and a 'freedom fighter'? Between a symbol of heroism, a revolutionary like Che Guevara, an anti-establishment reformist, perhaps even a prophet like Jesus... and a religious warrior like the Taliban or al Qaeda? I'm sure opinions will vary. Personally, I recognise Hamas as acting in self-defence, but it's still violence. Malcolm X, however much a hero to some, was an extremist also.

  8. Nelson Mandela was once a "terrorist", according to the Home Office in London. ..

  10. That`s cool. You won`t mind when Israel defends itself against Palestinian fired rockets into their homes, or Palestinian suicide bombers, then?

  11. I suppose that's why they say that one man's hero is another's terrorist.
Yeah, perceptions. Up to a great extent. But where do perceptions come from? You or I personally don't get to go and see what's happening in Palestine.

  12. Each Jew who decides to come settle on the lands of the Palestinians is fully aware that a Palestinian's home will be demolished and his family shall be killed to make space for him. And yet he not only endorses it all, but goes ahead with it to come settle on that piece of land.
Makes me wonder if he himself isn't an accomplice to murder? The only Israeli I don't consider a terrorist is the one who is underage, or one who was brought to Palestine while he was mentally insane or was forced to come there.
I don't blame the Palestinian who fires rockets because he wants his home back from the Jew who plots with murderers to expel him from it.

  17. By the same token, I consider every Palestinian, man woman and child, who knowingly shelters terrorists in their community to be a terrorist. And to my mind terrorists are murderers.
