The message of the video is worth to be posted, thank you..... but - at the risk of being called a nitpicker - is it that difficult to post a video in the video-section? Your next post ignoring our simple rules will be deleted.
Since the video is already on Multiply and I could not find the original source to post into your video section this was the only way to do it. I also notice that you yourself do not always follow your own rules. http://geopolitics.multiply.com/journal/item/1199/Questions_about_Iraq
Is it really necessary to be so nitpicky when people such as myself are refraining from posting much to your site because of the nitpicky rules?
Allow the people more freedom or they will leave of their own accord!
Just ask people to provide a source link if available and stop controlling what is the normal behavior already on multiple other groups. Its simply to much and drives people away!
Not every group has the same rules. It is the responsibility of each member of every group to try to do their best, when possible, to work within the rules of each particular group's guidelines. SLG is no different in its request of its members. Normal is 98.7 degrees Slight deviations are sometimes acceptable, but should be used judiciously :)
There is another practical reason to be more lenient and accepting in your rules and that is because people are members of multiple groups. They make decisions to post something that they feel is important to be shared across Multiply and they will post it to several groups. Your having special posting rules simply make us avoid posting here and that is such a shame to see a dying number of postings on a group that could make a great difference. Heck I wasted 20 minutes trying to find the source video on youtube so that I could submit it here without harping. But still without success. Seriously what harm is there in being consistent with the easy posting rules common to other multiply groups?
On the other hand, if you allow one side to do it you have to allow the other, and the other side around here posts NOTHING but links with no commentary and those links lead to sites that hijacked the original article from somewhere else.
Of course I tried to run a group before insisting on original content, or at least commentary to be included in the link and it died. It's a shame to see the concept of debate has sunk that low, but it has.
I'm not sure the video is the problem so much as the lack of any commentary to go with it.
I agree. For instance, without commentary, I wouldn't have the faintest idea what this video was about. I didn't watch it. It didn't pique my interest.
Let people post what they like that is within Multiply's TOS and within the subject of this group. This is supposed to be a free country. Are we controlling postings now?
The short answer is yes, we are. Multiply's TOS as it is is controlling postings.
Now the reasons for it. This is an International forum, and we are constantly fighting the tendency to turn it into yet another US issues forum. There are enough of those already, we don't need another US Liberals vs Conservatives one. As such, management of the forum is pretty proactive in enforcing what is hopefully a pretty even handed policy.
Keep in mind, the country may be free, but it isn't about whether the US is a free country or not. And it isn't all that clear-cut that the US is a free country to start with. Be that as it may, that line of argument is a red herring because Multiply isn't a country, it's a corporation, and the Internet certainly isn't a country, it's an electronic media, so what's your point?
I agree with you on requiring topics of world concern and interest. Just please don't make it so hard and nitpicky on us. The number of postings have gone down dramatically and I know I have and will avoid posting here simply because it is nitpicky.
The number of postings is a concern. I'm not sure nit-picky is the reason. When I turned over the reigns of Free For All Politics there was a rush of postings as the usual suspects had a party, that has pretty much died down now. Of course it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and the number of postings everywhere decreases dramatically except among the really rabid. Even during election cycles.
Don't know what to tell you on that one, we are reviewing the rules particularly in light of the fact there aren't all that many posts at the moment. I suspect they are going to be allowed to stay bent for a while.
Thank you for considering our frustrations and what we go through to bring material to this group. Please make it easy for us as this group has the potential for great good!
I really hadn't thought of that. Yes... it sets a precedent, which 'they' then point to... things spiral, and it all turns to shit.
I've been away too long (not staying). Gentleman... I authored what is referred to here as nitpicking.
It was written in stone that way to nurture quality. Individuals are dispensible. It works.
I DO hear your objections, for what it's worth. But I'm not on Multiply much these days... I always preferred discussions about how a group operates to be held in private, less disruptive.
Baglava runs the show, is free to change what she likes. I'd also agree with Diio that a video alone in a blog section intended for original writing, needs at least some kind of caption. Meet us in the middle? There ARE NO RULES. It is not as strict as it may appear, always flexible, but final decision always rests with one, accountable to all. That's democracy.
I think I've done this myself, too. Post feels incomplete without some text. Lazy.
The subject material of this group is by definition far wider than your 'free' country? I do understand your point; please do not miss this one. 'Geopolitics' is not about only our democratic nations, USA and UK. Perhaps you meant Multiply's host country? Still too narrow. I'm thinking carefully as I write, I have a tendency to be quite aggressive and could easily scare away a potentially valuable contributor... but you really do need to widen the lens a bit mate.
lol you're a group moderator too, aren't you, if I remember? Those who don't post here fit into many 'categories'. The reasons suggested certainly don't apply to them all.
There are those whose first language may not be English... in a group this international, that shouldn't be surprising. I know 99% of who views these posts and doesn't reply... there are as many watching, read-only, as post, if not more. Can only state my own opinion on the matter... but given the season, the post-count really doesn't worry me. Keeping this place internationally diverse and well managed is much more important.
Good day.
P.S. yes... again, only my opinion. Baglava has final say. I kicked close friends from here, to make this group work. No regrets about that. Just before all but leaving Multiply, I unbanned all. None of my business any longer. Not a personal matter. But yeah, I think the overall product is much more important than individuals, including myself. Arrogant? Sure. Guilty as charged. But again... it works.
Your observations are sound. Genuine thanks. This group is in good hands :)

I'll do my best and accept your reason. The post you refer to was a summary of several different publications.

My two cents worth anyway.
i really do think commentary is helpful. if i don't know what i'm getting into if i click play, or click through on a link, i just don't do it.
