A leading American scientist who once had access to top-secret materials related to national defence and atomic research appeared in court yesterday after being charged with attempting to pass classified materials to Mossad...

This doesn't feel right. Israel are in the press lately in a bad light after a UN report on war-crimes in Gaza last January. Papers know related headlines will sell.
AntwortenLöschenStewart Nozette, this guy, didn't approach Mossad with NASA secrets. They approached him. Except it wasn't Mossad, it was FBI pretending to be Mossad.
Breaking story, so we'll see how it pans out. My initial feeling is that he's guilty of little more than opportunism.
Why would Israel need to steal NASA (presumably aircraft related, at a guess) data anyway? If they asked the US to build them a new jet, the US probably would. Simplistic, but you see my point?
Israel has been spying on America for decades. There are a long list of people we have put in jail for it, Israel of course looks at them all as "Patriots".
AntwortenLöschenIf the FBI put together a sting operation, there must have been something there, too soon to draw conclusions about it though.
yesterday - CNN was going to run a story about this (around 08:00 gmt) - they replace the report with another one - it was not reported - something wrong with the facts ?
AntwortenLöschenand yet America is supporting Israel ? why why ?
AntwortenLöschensome weird guilt tip? Maybe it goes back to the Holocaust when america wouldn't accept any eastern jews and so many perished in such a horrific way and they have been feeling guilt ever since/
AntwortenLöschenSo, what's the news?
AntwortenLöschenUm, maybe you better look at the stats on that. The main reason we have been supporting Israel all these years is the size of the Israeli lobby in America - by American Jews. If you are checking it out, be sure to look at the breakdown in NYC and the entire state of NJ.
AntwortenLöschenI can't see a problem here. It was a sting operation and if the individual was happy to give secrets to Israel for profit the chances are he would have given them to others if the retirement package was acceptable.
AntwortenLöschenThe problem is the inferred connection to Mossad. There is no problem with the sting operation, it just doesn't prove Israel was trying to buy those secrets. I don't think anybody has a problem with them catching a would be traitor.
AntwortenLöschenWhat would you say If he had connections with some country other than Israel ? just say, he had connections with Pakistani ISI..
AntwortenLöschenIn this case it wouldn't have changed anything jmk. Selling secrets to anybody is treason, but this was the FBI POSING as a foreign interest, and entrapment is always an issue with those. If he was actually caught selling them to Israel or somebody else he would be facing life in prison with nobody giving it a second though.
AntwortenLöschenNot sure what you were implying, and I can't speak for Bob, but I promise you, if it has been Pak intel, I'd still have posted this. I have both services as keywords on my news filter.
AntwortenLöschenIn no way was I supporting this individual and that wouldn't have changed regardless who the foreign interest was. When I said I couldn't see a problem it was in regard to this individual being caught in a sting operation.
