And as Adri Anna recently observed, a similar criticism can be made regarding Feudalism, only slightly differently: The problem with Feudalism is that eventually other people run out of money.
Anyway, the one thing I can appreciate Novak for is his cursing out of James Carville live on the air. It's hard not to like a guy who gets to do something we all wish we could do like that...
Capitalism: you use a sum of money to buy labour to be able produce and/or sell goods and/or service. If things go well, the incomes are yours; if things go wrong, losses are yours too. The berlusconi's and others' version of the second part is: if things go well, incomes are theirs; if things go wrong, losses are ours (in other words, losses are socialized). A sort of socialist capitalism, eh?
Hopefully as she approaches the end of her life truth may appear to her in a vision and may that torment her final moments. She destroyed manufacturing industry in this country in her quest to destroy the unions. She privatised the utilities, the rail service, the bus industry, the telecom industry and, guess what, when the shares came on the market none of the poor bought them. They couldn't afford them then and they're still paying the price now. She introduced the sale of council housing to tenants in an effort to gain votes from greedy people but ensured that the proceeds from such sales couldn't be used to build more badly needed social housing. Those that already had wealth gained enormously as those that didn't found themselves in a downward spiral of unemployment and eviction. She was the lady that said "there is no such thing as society" and by the time she was forced from office little was left. If there is a hell I wish her a very long stay there.
She showed her colors when she ran to the murderous tyrant Pinochet and apologized for how the world was treating him when he was FINALLY threatened with retribution for his crimes during old age.
These folks don't usually end up having to make up for what they've done during life. And when they do, they chalk it up to opponents conspiring against them...
Of course, that alone doesn't make her incapable of a good quote, all other things beinig equal...
As for Thatcher, she was a mad old bitch that we drove out of office in floods of tears, I love that clip of her leaving Downing Street snivelling in her final defeat.
