Land mines and other hidden explosives are the remnants of war in Iraq. They have taken a horrific toll, particularly on the lives of children. Countless numbers of children have been killed or maimed herding animals or just playing. NBC's Steve Wende reports.
There are about 4000 mine fields in Iraq. It may take 600 years to clear them at the present rate.

  1. For many years to come Americans will be dealing with the high cost of attacking Iraq, not only the mourned dead, but the physical and mental permanent injuries of returning veterans. The legacy we leave behind in Iraq will be a thousand times worse. Children not even yet born will be blown up by our land mines, as will farmers and workers seeking to rebuild a devastated nation.
