  2. I wonder if the Obamas have a champagne tonight... I guess they deserved it. We Europeans will never understand, why US-Americans reject public health care.

  3. Well, half of us Americans do want universal health care. And like you we do not understand why the other half does not want it.

  4. The US spends 4.5% of GDP and climbing on defense, the Lion's Share of which goes into NATO. Europe spends about 2.5% and dropping. If the US spent a commensurate amount and left Europeans to fend for themselves, it could screw around with all sorts of experiments with 'Public Healthcare' and never notice the expense and losses.
If Europe didn't have the Yankee defense dividend, do you really think it could afford 'Public Healthcare'?????
Face it. You characters can't make it through a Futbol match without beating each other half to death.
If, for the sake of 'Public Health Care' the US closed its 750 military bases in 150 foreign countries, you lot would be at each others' throats in a New York minute.
Half the US population doesn't want 'Public Health Care' because they are smart enough to do the simple arithmetic and discover that they can't afford it.
The other half doesn't care about the cost, couldn't care less about where the money will come from and are oblivious to economic collapse, downgrading of national bond ratings and death panels like the UK's N.I.C.E.
They are just a bunch of elitist Continental Wannabes living in a world created by their own delusions.

  5. The fact is, countries with universal health care pay considerably less for it than Americans under the non-system, which has the world's highest cost, but not even close to the highest quality.
Cost savings are highest under single-payer plans, but significant also under insurance-based systems like Germany's. We will save on health care as our system is implemented, and the savings will increase with time. Like any new system it may require adjustment.
Polls are funny things. A majority approves each of the provisions of the plan, but asking about "Obamacare" in general gets 50/50. That's what spending millions on anti-reform propaganda and the astroturf "Tea Party" buys.

Bond ratings? The Teaparty-infested House caused that. Affordable Health care, which REDUCES deficits, is certainly not to blame.

We can't afford NOT to have universal health care, neither financially nor morally.
The irony is that this was a CONSERVATIVE plan, one that Romney was for before he was against. That was back when there was still such a thing as a "compassionate conservative." If any of those still exist, they are being very, very quiet.

We should definitely celebrate, but then do our utmost to make sure we keep our progress by defeating all possible Republicans in Congress, and of course re-electing the President.

  6. That's because they have agencies. Agencies like the UK's N.I.C.E. National Institute for Clinical Excellence. They manage the back end of cost.
You see, we, and they, use 90% of our health care dollars/Euros in the last 10% of life.
So, to make the arithmetic work and realize "savings", the agencies must do two things:
    1. Assign a monetary value to a human life. Last time I looked (about 3 years ago) N.I.C.E. valued a UK human @ E160,000.00.
    2. Manage EOL or End Of Life care.

The US version is the A.H.R.Q. The Agency for Health Research Quality. They are the ones who, without consulting HHS or the Surgeon General have indicated that women should get less breast exams and or Pap Smears and Men should get less prostate exams.
Like NICE, they will alter treatment to meet budget rather than alter budget to meet treatment.

When your medical expenses reach the "value", strategies to make you comfortable in your End Of Life Experience will be deployed. Sort of like Nitrous Oxide at the dentist. You're dying but, you're OK with it.
There will be no motivation for anyone to seek methods, drugs or new therapy of any kind to pro-long life unless somebody out there will do it free of charge.

Now the arithmetic works. Simply cull the back end of the population. When that isn't enough, we will get a Chinese style maximum off-spring regulation.

Why would I want to work beyond 50 if there is less likelihood that I'll live beyond 70? AND, doesn't that diminish the contributor pool?

Remember when the oldest people in the world were always in some Eastern Bloc country? Now they are not that old and, they're in Ohio.

    Oopps.
