Obama: Abortion Enables 'Our Daughters' To 'Fulfill Their Dreams'...

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama says the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade is the chance to recognize the “fundamental constitutional right” to abortion and to “continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.”

The 1974 U.S. Supreme Court nationalized abortion law, prohibiting states from deciding on the matter. In his written statement, Obama acknowledged that abortion has been a divisive political issue.

Obama, while serving in the Illinois State Legislature and as president of the United States, has taken a hard line on abortion rights.

In his statement on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling, Obama said it reflects the broader principles of America.

  1. It's just the babies that DON'T get to fulfill their dreams. What an idiot comment.

  2. There is enough stuff going on right now that abortion - pro or con, simply is NOT on the list of reasons I will be casing a vote in this one Randy. It's why I am willing to overlook Paul's stand on the subject.

On the list of things that matter in this election, that ranks about zilch on the impact-o-meter. And it is going to piss off the Liberals posting on this board to hear me say that as it does you.

  3. I am not pissed - just posting. I am voting economy - period. I am just pointing out that Conservatives believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child and since we believe that infanticide is wrong, we oppose abortion. Most liberals, despite what they'll tell you, believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child, but they prefer killing the baby to inconveniencing the mother.

Why can't the baby and 'Our Daughters' have a chance To 'Fulfill Their Dreams'...?

  4. Not this Liberal. According to the CDC, 88% of abortions are performed prior to the 12th week. States can regulate, but not prohibit abortion at that point.

There are more important issues facing us. This horse has been dead a long time.

  5. Because if you aren't even sure what you're about yet there is no way you can figure it out and raise a child. Leaving the morality issues out of it, how can you parent a baby when you aren't adult enough to have figured out why unprotected sex is a bad idea to start with?

I'm leaving out all the peripheral reasons for having abortions - rape, incest, medical issues, fetus deformities, and just sticking with the kids that haven't quite gotten the connection between having sex and having children. They haven't gotten their lives together, you think adding a baby to the mix is going to improve that?

I'd love to think that happens on a regular basis, it doesn't.

  6. Thank you, Mr. President. You are absolutely right.
Women have the right to decide for themselves, and that should be the end of the discussion.

  7. I see a big irony in the fact that the most vocal opponents of abortions are also the most vocal against education into safe sex and contraception. It is also ironic that the same people who want the government to have a smaller part in our lives are the same ones who want so much control over what happens in the bedrooms of all all people, even those who do not hold the same beliefs.

That the economy can bomb, and soldiers die in far off and un-winnable wars obviously has much less priority when there is the possibility of throwing out some emotive issue which would be better dealt with at times other than elections.

  8. They are also pretty vocal about denying basic necessities to children such as food, shelter and protection from abusive parents.

  9. Yay, Obama.
    Roe v Wade must stand.
Get over it, Cons and stop hindering birth control and the abortion numbers will drop.

  10. When you can get pregnant and carry for nine months and go through childbirth, you can make that decision for yourself.
The rest of us will maintain that right and choice for OURselves.

One of my college roommates got to fulfill her dreams because of that right and choice.
She acted quickly, in the very early stages and has never been pregnant since, lest you accuse her of using it as birth control.
As YOU tell me about that other touchy matter.... Get over it. Move on.

  11. Because for them its all about the fetus, not the child.

Well actually it's more about controlling women.. women's sexuality in particular.
But they also hate same sex sexuality, so they need to intrude there as well...
Hell these guys are just plain sexually repressed.
And we all know how that works out.... how many is it now... the number of Conservative family values geeks who've been caught with their pants down... with young MEN for that matter.
Maybe they were worried about unwanted pregnancies?

  12. My friend teaches in the Baltimore city schools. Her classes are full of just that situation.
she experiences the result of children having children every day.
She remains a good teacher, determined to make a difference but her stories make me believe it's hopeless sometimes.
I think birth control should be given out on every street corner with a label that succinctly informs kids how to use it or ways to abstain if they can.

But that would mean giving them an informed choice rather than an ignorant "just say no" line of horse crap.
