This is a poem written by a girl, Nessrriinn, who was bullied off of youtube:

She's Buried Chest High

  1. Very tough to think and give comment.

  2. Powerful stuff. I think there ought to be an international consensus, UN or whoever, to make this medieval practice illegal, anywhere.

Here is a video of a real stoning. Be warned, it's graphic. Also, be aware that the men in the video are Yazidis, in the Kurdistan region I think, or possibly Yemen, who stoned this young Kurdish girl because she converted to Islam. My point is to be sure of what you are seeing, and wary of how such media can distort facts.

I'd like to know how many places still practice this... does the acceptance of it vary, for instance, between Shia and Sunni?

And, to play 'devil's advocate'... why are hanging, lethal injection or the electric chair any better?

Rev - thanks for posting at all, and we haven't had much of this sort of stuff here... so thanks also for presenting it without the usual vitriol. You SEEM to have humanitarian concerns foremost, so... benefit of doubt. I am not even manager here any longer, but I'm wary that this kind of material, posted too often, can open the floodgates and set a precedent for all the Islamophobes to start doing likewise. You know how it can get? 'We hate Islam, we hate Obama because he's black, etc etc ad infinitum'. Much effort was taken to keep those kind of repetitive haters out of this forum, nor would you expect to find radical Muslim views calling for the destruction of Israel etc.

So far so good. It's happening, it's disturbing, so it's worth reporting. But I think that's the crux of it... don't let the haters mistake this for a license to come and infect this place like they do everywhere else.

The video you've posted carries a disclaimer that it is entitled 'Sharia Law' and is not against all Islam. The line in her poem about '1400 years', then, doesn't make sense to me. Her intent may have been as stated, but it's very easy for the more prejudiced to twist something like this and distribute it less constructively than you have done.

  3. They aren't. Killing is killing. My opinion.

For me as disturbing as the cruelty are the reasons why stoning is executed, mostly adultery or conversion to another religion, both facts that even aren't crimes in Western societies. And it's mostly women who get stoned, mostly by men. For me there is a strong relation to how they value women: as the possession of men. That's why men have to keep women under guard and if their women and daughters break out of their restrictions, it's the men who lose reputation in their societies. It is honor killing. With stones, knifes or pistols, and it isn't limited to the sharia law in Muslim countries. It happens allover the world in cultures where women are considered possession of men.

  4. Yes that's it completely. I have recently realized that I have been going on and on about problems in my own country and ignoring the human rights abuses elsewhere. There is not much that I can do except try to raise some awareness. I don't hate Muslims. I love these people who have to endure this barbaric rule. I am sure that I have many brothers and sisters there....many like minded people. I wish the best for them.

  5. Yes. That is the most hideous part of this. It is the systematic brutal barbaric treatment of women and little girls. It makes me sick.

  6. Islam. Bringing the stone ages back!

  7. Evidently, in some parts of the world, they have never left it. It's so sad.

  8. There's certainly truth in the poem that causes some to consider violence against one's established system, and its effects on either the individual considering this notion or on humanity in general.

But I'm curious as to the part of the description which reads: who was bullied off of youtube.

I'm a strong advocate against the concept of self victimisation. Here's a girl who has many things to say. She turned from Islam to Atheism in order to reject her blindness and experience, in her words, the joy of what the universe had to offer.

That doesn't sound like someone who felt she was being bullied, but someone tired of all of the bullshit. Perhaps they're the same thing, now that I reflect further on it.

Regardless, the mindset of being pushed around by people whose only pushing involves words is distasteful to me, and does not give Nessrriinn the credit she deserves for speaking out against an abusive regime.

Her departure from YouTube, instead of continuing to provide her voice and perspective, is a serious loss, and one that she enacted on her own rather selfishly. Perhaps it was something she needed to do, but to claim that her departure is the fault of others is the result of being blind to fact.

I've searched the 'Net for more information behind her departure, but all I've found is silence. So I can only base my viewpoint on the limited number of available facts surrounding this.

It's my sincere hope she returns in the near future to cause even more trouble.

  9. The word "bullied" was my choice of words. Maybe it isn't the best description. But according to sources on youtube, she received a lot of threats. I'm not so sure that she left out of fear. But she probably got tired of it and just decided to move on. Maybe. I can't really say for sure.

  10. Ahhh, of course. For some reason I had it in my head that the "bullying" comment was on the page the video you posted links to, but you're correct. It sure struck a chord in ME, though. ;>

As my post noted, without more information it's difficult to know what her reasons were for closing her channel. The brain babbleth over.

  11. Yes you're right. We would really need to hear it straight from her.
