By the end of the Second World War (WWII), Europe and Japan were in shambles. The United Nations (UN) was established after WWII to prevent war from breaking out again. It was not founded to govern over the myriad nations of the earth, but rather to preserve the sovereignty of each through international oversight and action. All nations could have a seat in the General Assembly, but only five nations would comprise the UN Security Council: the United States (US), France, the United Kingdom (UK), the Soviet Union (USSR), and China. The UN Charter established a body that would provide a forum for communication between sovereign nations. It also authorized the collective use of force in defense of the international status quo.

NEW YORK - President Bush yesterday attempted to shame the United Nations into action against Baghdad by hammering out a case that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's continued defiance threatens to make the world body as irrelevant as the League of Nations.
"Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced, or cast aside without consequence?" the president said. "Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant?"

The USA pays 30% of the total UN budget. Why?

Where do I stand? I say close it down. It's a joke. How long have they been talking about a solution for Darfur? Basically today's UN exists solely for eastern countries to get together and blame all their failures on mythical Zionism and the Jews. While comical (and slightly pathetic) it's simply not worth the money to keep it open. I wish my country (the USA) would pull all it's funding and concentrate on making alliances only with countries that share our values of personal liberty and freedom.
What say you?
Who said A and C?
AntwortenLöschenMuah!
AntwortenLöschenI should have figured!
AntwortenLöschenThe UN was a good idea. Unfortunately, it seems like there's a certain bureaucratic culture that has set into it that has undermined the aims.
AntwortenLöschenIt's one thing to say The genocide in Darfur should be stopped. It's another to actually do something about it.
AntwortenLöschenDoes anyone think Saddam Hussein gave two shits about any of the 13 UN security council resolutions levied against him? "Hey SADDAM, we are going to write you another nasty letter if you don't stop your shenanigans." *snooze*
just the military wing of the NWO machine,
AntwortenLöschensupposedly to ensure the peace ,but in Africa definitely responsible for secretly stirring up war
that was not on the options you guys are arguing over the propaganda,at least argue over the reality
Red! You realize A and C are inclusive correct?
AntwortenLöschenAnd adrisanitarium...America's promoters were...Commuists.
So today we should not be surprised at their attempts to destroy America's republic correct!
Enlighten me s'il vous plaît.
AntwortenLöschenWoW ! That's all Greek to me!
AntwortenLöschenBut seriously the U.N was founded by communists as their soap box to attack their betters...
I think I am on the wrong site-my eyes don't believe what I read above-you are a sad bunch-
AntwortenLöschenAlger Hiss in 1948. This investigation ultimately resulted in Hiss's trial and conviction for perjury, and convinced many of the usefulness of congressional committees for uncovering communist subversion...
AntwortenLöschenAmerica's contribution to the U.N.
...You must be just so proud!...
How so?
AntwortenLöschenJust like our congress, I am not sure what the U.N. does except to collect money and use it for their own special interest. ;)
AntwortenLöschenstarfishred ...Since you post No historical fact or premise...Forget the others...Enlighten Me!
AntwortenLöschenAgreed. Bring something to the table besides "You people are so sad." This a meaningless statement. Perhaps a counter argument is in order, no?
AntwortenLöschenNo one can't argue with you it is impossible cause you already have your mind made up that you are right and I or people like me are wrong-
AntwortenLöschenstarfishred...How you have changed! But the ultimate goal of the U.N. is not just Israel...It is the one world, Communists "governance"...Randy, you make a valid point that hatred is the U.N.'s long suit!
AntwortenLöschenCommunist conspiracies everywhere, huh?
AntwortenLöschenStrange, strange folks you meet on the net...
Alger Hiss...Explain that away!
AntwortenLöschenIndeed. Some folks see fasicist/commumist/Jewish/Illuminati conspiracies in their Cheerios. They are not open to rational debate, because everything confirms what they already know.
AntwortenLöschenI'm not saying that applies to anyone on this page, of course...
As adults, our minds are mostly made up on most issues. I am no different. I have changed my views based on arguments I have heard on Multiply.
AntwortenLöschenI guess what I am saying is - give it a shot! Let's hear what you have to say!
hehehe some of the people on this page see that conspiracy everywhere-even in their cherrios LOL they are masters at twisting the facts to fit you know a little truth a lot lie so forth and so forth-
AntwortenLöschenYou may not know this but Cheerios was originally called Cheeri Oats and later changed to Cheerios because of a trade name dispute.
AntwortenLöschenLucky for them, actually. "Cheeri Oats"? No way a famous athlete is going to appear on THAT box!
AntwortenLöschenLucky for them, actually. "Cheeri Oats"? No way a famous athlete is going to appear on THAT box!
AntwortenLöschenIt is a "we hate America" club where we are expected to pay most of the membership expenses. That building could be converted into some prime apartments with a great view.
AntwortenLöschenA RARE misfire by Adri. Let me correct you my dear. It is Wheaties, not Cheerios, who has a long history of putting athletes on it's boxes!
AntwortenLöschenNow about the UN..........
Seriously?
AntwortenLöschenDamn, my pop culture knowledge apparently slams to a halt this side of breakfast cereals...
Seriously?
AntwortenLöschenDamn, my pop culture knowledge apparently slams to a halt this side of breakfast cereals...
Not Anymore! In case you haven't heard Obama is president now. Everyone loves us!
AntwortenLöschenWhilst I can go with the notion that the UN needs reformation (as much as the EU does in my opinion) I do not think it is hackneyed and therefore should be abolished.
AntwortenLöschenForming alliances between like minded states will only lead to conflict between those alliances, vis. two world wars etc. Whilst there are many states who we may not like, ev en abhor at times, there must be a forum where these states can meet and exchange views. To arrogantly assert that one nation is superior to another for any reason and refuse to engage with them is stupidity on a global scale.
You may be right, indeed I strongly believe you are Randy, in that the festering sore that is Darfur needs to be sorted out. It does us in the west no favours by standing by allowing a humanitarian disaster such as this to continue. How can it be right that we (the West) go to war in Iraq partly it was said at the time in order to topple a corrupt regime and continue to stand on the side lines wringing our hands over Darfur?
I don't believe any nation should have a greater say in the workings of the UN than any other, equally I believe that the time for the permanent membership of the Security Council is long past, along with the veto. All that said, if every nation member has one vote then every nation should also bear an equal burden of the cost of the UN. How one manages to make that happen though would I suspect rank up there with all the other great miracles.
I would modify choice A to say "A Mostly Worthless Institution where little of substance ever gets done", but then I give to the UNHCR and UNICEF, so I see some worth in the organization. For the most part though, I'm with you. The time they spent simply in debating the definition of "genocide", trying to placate the dictatorships within their membership while thousands died in Darfur? That was disgusting. The United Nations could do real good, but it would require regime change in so many of the member states to get to that point.
AntwortenLöschenThanks for your well thought out and reasoned response Jim. Why I agree that the west should act in Darfur I wonder why the the other member nations of the UN can't take the lead here. Why can't China, India, Turkey or any of the arab states take the lead here? They all have military's and the resources to bring stability to the Sudan.
AntwortenLöschenWhy does the rest of the world wait for the Europe, Canada and the USA to act? This is what I hate about the UN!
You say "I don't believe any nation should have a greater say in the workings of the UN than any other."
Fine - then the USA and the west have no more responsibility to clean up the worlds problem than other nations do.
Attention: Rest of the world. There is a problem in Darfur. Please take the lead.
The UN is really about money. The people from most of the third world countries see this as a free ride to wealth. With corruption running wild in the organization, these people can live like kings and accumulate power and wealth. The USA supports 30% of that cost and how much of that money is lost. With an agenda of hate towards the USA or Israel the Muslim countries use the UN to gain support in their own pay for play program. Remember the Iraq "Oil for food program" where UN people skimmed millions. Darfur will not get fixed, its a source of China oil and influence, so they will always veto any action. Also no black African leader will ever criticism or condemn another black African leader no matter how brutal or evil he is, its a unwritten rule. The UN human rights group is a joke with the worlds worst offenders running the group. The USA should pull out its support of 30% and be equal with everyone else, if they did that the others would force bad decisions on the group. The only answer is a new group and let this one die!
AntwortenLöschendream on Obama dances for NWO,he will make Bush look like little Beau Peep,Check who his relatives are ,and you will understand.he is whiter than you.
AntwortenLöschenHe has only just got here and already more of our freedom is threatened than ever before, not just for you Americans but for all of us.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=92002this bill has already passed the house of representatives, while he build a smoke screen with the White house Victory gardens, many pages advertising this bill have disappeared.

everybody does not love you
Apart from the US and Canada the rest of the worlds states have a long and bloody history whilst growing up. Most of western Europe claims to be moraly correct and have working democracies. This was not always so, we have had long periods of brutaly putting our own people down and waging war on our neighbours. Other parts of the world are still doing this. All that makes me some what optimistic that eventually, long after my great grandchildren are gone I suspect, these states will stop tearing lumps of each other and learn to get along. Meanwhile we (those who claim to be moraly superior that is) will have to try and keep sorting the mess out.
AntwortenLöschenthat is very true, but you cannot deny that America has made up for lost time since ,
AntwortenLöschencount the dead.
This is proving to be a facade,I know it is hard to accept ,but the control has become Global ,every day there is less separation between both sides of the Atlantic .
AntwortenLöschenThe messages in the Cheerios may be more true .than what you see on the news.
lol
Well I suppose that depends on just who you think runs your country. The politicians or multi-national business?
AntwortenLöschencheck the membership list of the Bilderberg group and you will not ask that question.
AntwortenLöschenand you don´t even have to think ,
the answer will jump in your face.
It was a rhetorical question.
AntwortenLöschenoh sorry thats OK then
AntwortenLöschenNo worries, long since given up on being offended. There are those whose entire mission in life is to be upset, glad to say I ain't one. ;-))
AntwortenLöschenmy vote for 'A'
AntwortenLöschenmy vote for 'A'
AntwortenLöschenSalam (Peace),
AntwortenLöschenMine is "A".+ No Democracy, No Justice, Double Standards, and Rule of Money, Lies, Hypocrisy, Racism, and so many other curses sapping the world nowadays.
Salam
What I find fascinating about this thread and poll results are that I am not the only one who dislikes the UN. You would figure that the bushitler warmongering neocons like myself would hate the UN but people of all political stripes do so as well. Ideology be dammed - the UN does suck donkey balls!
AntwortenLöschenYou knew that before you posted this.
AntwortenLöschenYou knew that before you posted this.
AntwortenLöschenNot so Martin! What I want to know is WHY such resentment exists among the political left here.
AntwortenLöschenResentment for what? Bush foreign policy? Because of all the blood spilled in the name of oil profits.
AntwortenLöschenBut if you mean the UN... it's a gutless talking shop. You're right - what did Saddam care about a few resolutions? And now al Bashir of Sudan, wanted for war crimes, is simply kicking them out.
I have a personal reason for disliking them too... to do with their stance on abortion. That's personal.
On the other hand, how can you NOT have an international body that serves the UN's purpose?
AntwortenLöschenTo be clear - what do we all think IS the UN's purpose? You know, I'm not that sure.
military wing of the NWO.with a big administration
AntwortenLöschenCheck in Africa what atrocities the Un has done in the name of peace
but you must look under the carpet.
Belgium has a heavy hand that it hides behind a benevolent international front.,So do The Netherlands.
People think they are small insignificant countries but they are quite powerful
I don't :)
AntwortenLöschenI don't :)
AntwortenLöschenthanks,
AntwortenLöschenmany people do ,
The Netherlands is not much bigger than the area of Mexico city, but the arms of the house of Orange are very long.
Today people are less enthusiastic about their democracy than they were 20 years ago..
What do you propose replacing the UN with?
AntwortenLöschenthat is almost like saying ,
AntwortenLöschenwhat do you propose to replace god with
.and who is gonna try to do it .
like you and whose many armies
.
The power of Bilderberg today is in everything humanity is addicted to.
Food ,oil, coal, pharmaceuticles ,soft drinks ,bread ,.Religion, money,
litaraly everything.
And the UN is part of that.
The problem with the UN is much like the problem the US had with the original Articles of Confederation. It has responsibilities, but insufficient authority to carry out many of them.
AntwortenLöschenNevertheless, it is useful as it is, and it serves as an unfinished concept waiting to be fulfilled.
The UN is doing what it is supposed to do ,you believe the propaganda of what it is supposed to do .I don´t think they are the same thing.
AntwortenLöschenThe UN has ignited war across Africa, under the guise of being a peace keeper
If you think UN is worthless - look at ASEAN in my side of the world. Myanmar has been slaughtering its civilians and no one gives a flying F.
AntwortenLöschenHow about an an elite coterie of Western thinkers and power-brokers that could fix the fate of the world behind closed doors.
AntwortenLöschenThis group could meet annually at luxury hotels or resorts throughout the world — maybe in Europe, and once every four years in the United States or Canada. It could have an office in Leiden in the Netherlands.

An important institution that shud be given more support. It's failings are the sum of it's parts and the refusal of countries like the US and Israerl to toe the line. ..
AntwortenLöschenmy sentiments also
AntwortenLöschenIf one country have a support of world powers it can do anything. Security Council ? do they care about it ?.. Laws made to be broken..
AntwortenLöschenI saw this debate on Intelligence Squared (BBC), those commentators who were against UNO gave really good point. And I loved it when people applaud them.
The people from most of the third world countries see this as a free ride to wealth
AntwortenLöschenWTO, WHO AND etc ...
Corruption running wild in the organization, these people can live like kings and accumulate power and wealth. This has been proved too many times. Hey fellow member, what to buy my vote?
The USA supports 30% of that cost and how much of that money is lost?
I remember reading that the US did not pay their dues and stuff for two years due to the corruption. Then Ted Turner fork over 50M to pay the USA bills. ???
The UN actions during the Gaza deal was questionable at best ...
No black African leader will ever criticism or condemn another black African leader no matter how brutal or evil he is, its a unwritten rule.
Current events confirms this crap
After thinking about this (for three bottles of beer) I don't know how to fix it. My thinking leads me to think that there is no way to make this concept work
BTW - the reply thing does not seem to work on this blog
Yeah !! Corruption is also a problem, distribution of the funds is another one such as Ghost clinics & schools
AntwortenLöschenYou mean like the Bilderberg Group?
AntwortenLöschenYou mean like the Bilderberg Group?
AntwortenLöschenGovernments want to keep order within, but behave like anarchists outside their borders. Until we can make them come to their senses, any organization like the UN will be somewhat disappointing.
